Why “best rated” is the wrong question

The independent guide’s walk holds a 5.0. It is also the newest and smallest sample of the six, at 101 reviews. The Central Oslo walk holds a 4.7 from 1,710. A perfect score from a hundred people and a very high score from nearly two thousand are different kinds of evidence, and the second one is harder to hold. Nothing in the spread between 4.6 and 5.0 tells you that one of these guides is better than another; it tells you how many strangers have been through each listing.

The lowest score belongs to the Best of Oslo walk, at 4.6 from 523 reviews, and I would rather explain it than bury it. That walk bundles the most: a live guide plus a sightseeing app plus public transport tickets plus entry to attractions. More moving parts means more things that can go wrong on a given morning, and a bundled product collects complaints that a plain walk never generates. It is not a worse tour. It is a busier one, and its review page says so.

And the route is not the variable either
